Structure, what?

So, long story short, I'm doing my structural-analysis assignments computing an audience hall. But here I am, browsing & googling since the previous 5 hours, actually captivated by the some imaginative structural architectures. I still have to adjust the idea that when I graduate & become a real engineer, I might just have the chance to construct one of these amazing structures for real!

"Apparently a company called Solaleya is buidling rotating UFO-homes. This Solaleya Domes are made of FSC-certified wood, are insulated with cork and have a structure that will withstand category 5 hurricanes and earthquakes up to magnitude 8 on the MSK scale (in case you wondered). It’s also a highly sustainable and eco-friendly house. It has a small mechanical structure in the base that gently rotates it to make sure those solar panels on the roof are getting the most sun energy."

"Rolf Disch has designed a new house with a solar-collecting array on top that follows the Sun all day long, but the real feat of engineering comes from the structure itself. The entire house rotates on a central axle. The front of the house is composed of triple-glazed glass to point toward that glowing ball of gas in the sky during the winter, while a heavily insulated backside rotates around to keep the heat at bay during those warm summer months. And that balcony you see at the top? That isn't a simple railing system; those are solar vacuum tubes for heating water and moving it throughout the house. This house is so energy efficient it actually generates more energy than it needs." (Upcoming pictures)

Have you heard about Macavity?

Bus drivers have nicknamed a white cat Macavity after it has started using the No 331 several mornings a week. The feline, which has a purple collar, gets onto the busy Walsall to Wolverhampton bus at the same stop most mornings - he then jumps off at the next stop 400m down the road, near a fish and chip shop. The cat, nicknamed Macavity, has one blue eye and one green eye.
The cat was nicknamed Macavity after the mystery cat in T.S Elliot’s poem. He gets on the bus in front of a row of 1950s semi-detached houses and jumps off at a row of shops down the road which include a fish and chip shop. Driver Bill Khunkhun, 49, who first saw the cat jumping from the bus in January, said: “It is really odd, the first time I saw the cat jumping off the bus with a group of passengers. I hadn’t seen it get on which was a bit confusing. “The next day I pulled up on Churchill Road to let a couple of passengers on. As soon as I opened the doors the cat ran towards the bus, jumped on and ran under one of the seats, I don’t think any of the passengers noticed.“Because I had seen it jump off the day before I carried on driving and sure enough when I stopped just down the road he jumped off - I don’t know why he would catch the bus but he seems to like it. I told some of the other drivers on this route and they have seen him too. ”Since January, when the cat first caught the bus he has done it two or three times a week and always gets on and off at the same stops. Passenger, Paul Brennan, 19, who catches the 331 to work, said: “I first noticed the cat a few weeks ago. At first I thought it had been accompanied by its owner but after the first stop it became quite clear he was on his own. “He sat at the front of the bus, waited patiently for the next stop and then got off. It was was quite strange at first but now it just seems normal. I suppose he is the perfect passenger really - he sits quietly, minds his own business and then gets off."

Having read the story, I can't help but wonder whether Kate Bosworth is an animagus. Lol.

#IOMBC JAKARTA, FEBRUARY 2011

Leaps of faith

One less call to answer, feeling full of despair, don't think I can get through it, just one last prayer. And it's a leap of faith, when you believe there's someone out there, it's a leap of faith when you believe that someone cares, and when I call out to you, will you be right there, right there.
Searching for the answer, nobody seems to care, oh how I wish that you were here beside me to wipe away my tears. Waiting for the answer, remembering times we would share, somehow I feel you here beside me, even though your not there.
Right there, and I'll be waiting by the window for your smile to come through, and I'll be waiting in the darkness when I call out to you, and I'll remember when you told me, I could trust in you. And it's a leap of faith, when you believe there's someone out there, it's a leap of faith when you believe that someone cares, and when I call out to you, will you be right there. It's a leap of faith, and I believe that you are out there, it's a leap of faith and I believe you truly care, and when I call out to you, I know you'll be right there, right there, and it's a leap of faith.

Let me hold your crown, babe

Keep drinkin' coffee. Stare me down across the table. While I look outside. So many things I'd say if only I were able. But I just keep quiet and count the cars that pass by.
You've got opinions, man. We're all entitled to 'em. But I never asked. So let me thank you for time and try to not waste any more of mine. Get out of here fast. I hate to break it to you babe, but I'm not drowning. There's no one here to save.
Who cares if you disagree? You are not me. Who made you king of anything? So you dare tell me who to be. Who died and made you king of anything?
You sound so innocent. All full of good intent. You swear you know best, but you expect me to jump up on board with you, ride off into your dellusional sunset. I'm not the one who's lost with no direction, but you won't ever see. You're so busy makin' maps with my name on them in all caps, you got the talkin' down just not the listening.
And who cares if you disagree? You are not me. Who made you king of anything? So you dare tell me who to be. Who died and made you king of anything?
All my life I've tried to make everybody happy while I just hurt and hide, waitin' for someone to tell me it's my turn to decide.
Who cares if you disagree. You are not me. Who made you king of anything. So you dare tell me who to be. Who died and made you king of anything? Let me hold your crown, babe.
